What is holistic lifestyle medicine?

Holistic suggests acknowledging the whole… the entire system rather than its isolated, individualized parts. Health imbalances are explored and treated from a body/mind/spirit connection perspective. We know that all three levels must be tended to for optimal health and healing to occur because this is who you are in your essence. Lifestyle medicine asks you to consider how your lifestyle practices contribute to your health – wellness and imbalance. Making effective alterations to your lifestyle in areas such as what you eat, how you move your body, and how you handle stress will result in improved health and overall quality of living.

How do I know if your approach is right for me?

My integrative approach is a wise choice for anyone who is interested in holistic, lifestyle medicine and who is ready to prevent or reverse type 2 diabetes, end sugar addiction or correct an imbalance. If holistic living is new to you and you are open-minded and ready and willing to make changes, you are in the right place. The ideal candidate for the HLP approach needs to be able to stand strong in the holistic/natural healing mindset while the mainstream population – often including family and friends – may confront and challenge your decision to go in this direction. This is based on their own fears and institutionalized brainwashing. If you are looking for a quick fix, the perfect diet, or the magic herb that will heal you, my approach will not meet your needs and is therefore, not for you. If you are not willing to make lifestyle changes and/or are highly skeptical of natural medicine, my program will not be a good fit for you.

What is type 2 diabetes?

In simple terms, type 2 diabetes (Diabetes Mellitus) is a metabolic condition. It is the inability of your body to use the hormone, insulin, effectively. Produced inside the pancreas, insulin is necessary to transport glucose (sugar) from your bloodstream to individualized cells. This process gives you the vital, daily energy you need to function properly. When your cells are not receptive and do not allow glucose to enter, a condition known as insulin resistance occurs. When enough glucose is not removed from your bloodstream, your blood glucose levels increase, often resulting in a diabetic condition.

I am a type I diabetic. Can your approach work for me?

As a type I diabetic, you will receive value from integrating the my approach into your daily routine. Since my program is holistic, it focuses on the whole body/mind/spirit system rather than one or two isolated symptoms or imbalances. You can expect to move through the three stages of well-being – Chaos of Symptoms, Symptom Reduction/Elimination, and Optimal Health in just the same way as any other person. There is no way to move through my coaching program whole-heartedly and not experience a great increase in your day-to-day quality of living. Since type I diabetes is a result of a lack of insulin in the body and not the result of lifestyle habits and choices, in most cases you will not be able to eliminate your insulin supplementation completely. However, many Type I diabetics have successfully been able to decrease their insulin dosage. Any changes to your insulin dosage must be discussed with your primary healthcare practitioner.

Can type 2 diabetes really be reversed?

Contrary to mainstream belief, type 2 diabetes can be reversed. In many cases type 2 diabetes is a result of lifestyle habits, choices, and behaviors. Therefore, making significant alterations to your current lifestyle routines through an integrative, holistic program will reverse the dynamics that are currently supporting your diabetes diagnosis. Within this new environment, you will move along the path of Chaos of Symptoms to Symptom-Reduction/Elimination to Optimal Health.

Do I need to take or stay on my pharmaceutical medications?

Changes in your lifestyle routine, including the aid of blood-sugar lowering and balancing supplements and herbs will lower your blood glucose (sugar) levels. If you are currently on pharmaceutical medications, you are advised to monitor your blood sugar levels and periodically check-in with your healthcare practitioner to discuss making any changes to your current medication dosage. If you are not currently taking pharmaceutical medications, you can start coaching with me immediately beginning from where you are today.

Do I need to follow your program 100% to make significant changes to my health?

It is rare that any of us follow any program 100%, though there are the select few that do. No, you do not need to follow the program 100%. However, as with any endeavor, what you put in is what you get out. Only you will truly know the effort you are putting forth to create the changes you desire. You do need to put forth a whole-hearted, whole-minded, and whole-spirited, concentrated effort to see your desired results. Each component is critical and builds on each other for optimal healing to occur.

Can I work with you if I live in a different city, state, or country?

Yes, absolutely! I work with most of my clients remotely via phone and video.

What is the duration of your program?

Since each person starts from their own unique starting point, everyone will move at their own pace. In this way, coaching is tailored to each person’s needs, personal process, and desired outcome. Holistic lifestyle integration suggests in its language that it is an ongoing, lifelong process. That said, coaching and direct guidance from Dr. Nicki personally will last as long as you and Dr. Nicki feel it is in your best interest to continue.

Can you help me with conditions other than type 2 diabetes?

My coaching intends to bring into alignment any physical or mental condition or imbalance. Since most ill heath is a result of inflammation and toxicity, addressing and tending to these issues with integrative, holistic methods will realign your body/mind/spirit system in the face of most conditions.
